Chicago White Sox: Is this a true rebuild?
The Chicago White Sox started a rebuild during the winter meetings trading away Chris Sale and Adam Eaton, but is this a true rebuild at this moment?
By now we all know that the Chicago White Sox are somewhat in a rebuild. For me, it is hard to say that this is a true rebuild like we saw with the Chicago Cubs a few years back. I don’t think we can call it a 100% rebuild when they traded two players away and still have a lot of veterans on the team.
If the White Sox want to fully commit to a rebuild they must trade away some veteran players. Starting off, Jose Quintana — are you going to trade him or not, Rick Hahn? The time is now; there’s no reason for him to be on the team after the trade deadline. If you don’t trade Quintana then, in my opinion, you are committing to him being your ace for years to come.
Todd Frazier should have his bags all but packed at this moment. Frazier and his stellar .195 batting average are doing absolutely nothing for the White Sox. There may not be a lot of interest in someone hitting under .200 but there are always teams out there that are desperate and need a bat. Frazier could have a big impact on a playoff contender come August and September as you can never count his power out.

Melky Cabrera is another player the White Sox should move. Cabrera isn’t getting any younger and even though he has played well in a White Sox uniform if you are committing the team to a rebuild Cabrera doesn’t have a place on the team. I think there would be a lot of interest in Cabrera and his good bat, but there’s not much power left in it. He still can hit for average, has a decent glove in the outfield and gives his all in every game.
There are some other players who could generate some trade interest on the White Sox now. Avisail Garcia seems to finally have found his bat and is destroying the baseball. If he keeps it up, he could be a huge asset for a playoff team.
David Robertson will and should be gone by the deadline, if not before. Every team in baseball knows how important a lockdown closer is in playoff baseball and that’s exactly what Robertson is. Keep an eye on the Washington Nationals. They should have high interest in the White Sox closer moving forward.
You can’t call it a rebuild until some, if not all, of these players are off the roster.

Rick Hahn and company have done a great job thus far getting talent for Chris Sale and Adam Eaton. However, there are some enticing pieces on the roster that a lot of teams would love to have. I hope the White Sox are huge sellers at the trade deadline and can add to their talent pool.
