In a new era, can the Bears compete against the Packers?

Okay, we don’t expect the Bears to compete for the NFC North title right away. There are still too many holes on this team for it to consistently win games. What we can expect, however, is for the Bears to compete in their games against the Green Bay Packers.

In the Jay Cutler era, the Bears had a record of 3-13 against the hated Packers, including 2-11 in games started by Cutler himself. That’s a lot of frustration for fans. If the Bears win only two games each season, those two games better be against the Packers. That’s how much Bears fans hate the Packers.

Some of those losses really hurt as well. There was the loss in the NFC Conference Championship in the 2010 season. Also, there was the final game of the 2013 season in which the winner would go to the playoffs and the loser went home.

Frustration is not a strong enough word to describe what Bears fans feel watching everything Aaron Rodgers does against not only the Bears but also the NFL. While he’s competing for division titles, conference titles, and Super Bowls, the Bears sit at home wondering why they can’t win games.

Now with a new quarterback, a new era arrives at Soldier Field. Hopefully, this new group of players could start beating their hated rivals again.

The Bears face the Packers in Week 4, a Thursday night game, and Week 10, their first game coming out of their bye week. It’d sure be nice to see Chicago restart a winning tradition against their rivals. Once that gets going, who knows what else the team goes on to accomplish.
