After the Chicago White Sox loss to Kansas City on Monday, Jacob May was sent down to the Charlotte Knights.

In a move that probably should have been made weeks ago, the Chicago White Sox have sent Jacob May down to Triple-A. To say May has struggled is an understatement. After being named the opening day starting center fielder, May pretty much was a no show. May has a total of two hits in 32 plate appearances this season.

There were high hopes that May could step into the role of starting center fielder and run away with it. May had plenty of chances to figure things out at the major league level and I feel like it simply became a mental game with him. After starting the season hitless, it soon becomes more mental than anything else and May did not seem to be able to get out of his own head.

The weird part of this move is the fact that May recorded a hit and a RBI in Monday nights loss to Kansas City. Could May have been coming out of his season-long slump? Or was it simply luck? Time will tell when he gets his at-bats in Triple-A.

Willy Garcia has been recalled to replace May on the White Sox’ 25-man roster. Garcia played well in limited time with the south siders, replacing Melky Cabrera earlier in the year. The White Sox do not need much out of Garcia for him to be a bigger offensive threat than May.

I hope that May can find his swing and earn his spot back with the Chicago White Sox. However, there is a ton of talent that is playing well in the minors. May’s major league window may be closing faster than he thinks. Don’t get me wrong, May is a talented player.  But when you have other talented players destroying the ball while he goes 2-32, that’s hard to ignore.
