Chicago Bears: 5 Second-Round Targets in the 2017 NFL Draft
2. Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
Offensive tackle is probably the Bears’ biggest positional need that does not get enough attention. With Josh Sitton, Cody Whitehair and Kyle Long, the Bears have a fantastic trio of interior offensive linemen. However, their tackles are not near as impressive.
Charles Leno Jr. still has some upside, but he is a below average starting left tackle at best. Bobby Massie is a liability as a starting right tackle, especially in pass protection.
The best offensive tackle remaining on the board is Alabama’s Cam Robinson. Robinson was a dominant left tackle in college who has nice upside for the next level. A dominant run blocker who will overpower defenders at the point of attack, Robinson would be an immediate upgrade over Massie at right tackle.
While his powerful run blocking is his strongest skill, Robinson also shows good athleticism and quick feet. His pass protection technique is sloppy, but if he can clean that up, he could be a strong pass protector at the next level.
At worst, Robinson is a dominant run blocker who would create holes for Jordan Howard in the run game. If he can get his pass protection in check, he would be a major steal in the second round who would help Trubisky grow by giving him more time than Massie every could.
