5. Tyus Bowser, EDGE, Houston

The 2017 NFL Draft class is loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball. We saw many top-tier defenders go in the first round, but there are still plenty of worthy defensive prospects available. Among them is Houston edge rusher Tyus Bowser, who has massive upside at the next level.

More from Chicago Bears

Bowser is a raw prospect, but he is an extremely athletic defensive player. With elite burst and speed on the edge, Bowser creates consistent pressure when asked to attack the quarterback. He is also a powerful defender who can hold his own at the point of attack.

The Houston product is best known as an outside pass rusher, but he was an extremely versatile prospect in college. Bowser can hold his own in coverage and is even a strong run defender when playing inside. His ability on the edge is impressive, but versatility is always nice in the NFL. Vic Fangio would have a lot of fun finding ways to use this guy.

Bowser shows a great combination of power, speed and athleticism that will undoubtedly play at the next level. He is still unrefined as a prospect, but his upside could be worth it for the Bears.

I could see the Bears targeting Bowser early in the second round. Adding his pass rush upside to the mix would greatly improve their defense. A pass rush combination of Bowser and last year’s first-round pick Leonard Floyd could be deadly for many years.
