2017 NFL Draft: Draft Grades for Each First-Round Selection
Most will look at this pick as a bit of a reach. Corey Davis flew under the radar for most of the last season. However, he is a true number one receiver in the making and will be a legitimate weapon for Marcu Mariota on the outside.
A big, fast and athletic receiver, Davis can absolutely dominate on the football field. He has an alpha mentality, consistently going up and winning the ball in jump ball situations. Davis has all of the skills to be a star NFL wide receiver but his elite route running ability and hands are just as impressive.
The Titans build around their young quarterback and grab themselves a stud here. Davis is an extremely talented player who fills an immediate position of need.
The power running game led by a strong offensive line and running backs DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry will still be the focus of the Titans’ offense. However, Davis gives them more of a chance to compete on the outside. Mariota is an extremely talented quarterback, but he clearly lacked legitimate options to throw to last season. By selecting Davis, the Titans give him a true number one receiver to grow with.
The Titans’ fifth overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft was a common trade-down spot. However, they decided to stay put and make Davis their guy. This was a strong selection that will immediately pay major dividends for the Titans.
