2017 NFL Draft: Draft Grades for Each First-Round Selection
Honestly, I would not have hated the 49ers taking Reuben Foster with the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Instead, they traded down a spot and took Solomon Thomas in a brilliant move. With Foster on a free fall, the 49ers used some of the draft capital acquired from the Bears’ trade to trade up for the talented linebacker.
Off-field concerns aside, Foster is an immediate impact player who has massive upside at the next level. He is an incredibly quick and athletic linebacker who plays with high intensity. Foster was the leader of the loaded Alabama defense last season and has a chance to be an All-Pro player at the next level. This was a great move by the 49ers. Fantastic first round by that organization.
Adding another piece to their defense would have been ideal here. However, Ryan Ramczyk is undoubtedly a talented offensive tackle who has a bright future at the next level. Ramczyk is a mobile lineman who can reach the second level with ease. He also shows great patience and overall technique in pass protection.

Ramczyk is a bit raw and does lack ideal power, but he undoubtedly has left tackle upside at the next level. In my eyes, the Saints would have been better off looking to defense here. However, taking Ramczyk to cap off the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft is a nice, solid selection. The Saints undoubtedly got better on Thursday.
