2017 NFL Draft: Draft Grades for Each First-Round Selection
The Miami Dolphins needed defensive end help and they certainly got it in the form of Charles Harris. Harris is an active pass rusher who has a lot of upside at the next level. However, he is a bit of a one trick pony who struggles to defend the run. Harris can attack with speed and athleticism, and you can never have too many guys who can attack the quarterback. That being said, there were better options available on the board.
Evan Engram is a freak athlete at the tight end position. He can stretch the field and make plays after the catch. Engram is listed as a tight end but is basically a receiver. He will not be asked to block much, but Engram can be a dynamic playmaker in the New York Giants offense.
Adding Engram to the mix with Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard gives Eli Manning an extremely exciting group of receivers to work with. The Giants probably had bigger needs but Engram can be a serious playmaker for this team.
On paper, the Oakland Raiders drafting Gareon Conley with the 24th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft was one of the best selections in the first round. He is an extremely talented and natural cover corner who has a ton of upside at the next level. He also fills a major position of need for the young and talented Raiders.
However, his recent off-field issues are obviously a major concern. The Raiders obviously believe Conley in that the allegations against him are false. I was surprised to see him go in the first, but the Raiders may have found a major steal.
