2017 NFL Draft: Draft Grades for Each First-Round Selection
The Indianapolis Colts taking Malik Hooker with the 15th overall selection may be my favorite pick of the first round. Hooker is an elite coverage safety with incredible natural ball skills. He can be a strong deep middle cover safety on day one and has massive upside going forward.
There are some injury concerns here and he only played for one season at Ohio State. That being said, Hooker is a special player who should have been long gone by number 15. The Colts added a much-needed defensive playmaker here. Fantastic pick by new general manager Chris Ballard.
Marlon Humphrey is a fast and athletic cornerback who undoubtedly has massive upside at the next level. He is a strong cover corner who can grow into a player who shuts down one side of the field. However, in order for that ever to happen, Humphrey needs to improve his ability to track the ball.
He consistently had trouble tracking the ball in college and it is easy to see why that would be an issue for a cornerback. Humphrey is a talented player and the Baltimore Ravens have a huge need at the cornerback position. However, his one true flaw could end up being fatal. This is a true boom or bust selection for the Ravens.
