2017 NFL Draft: Draft Grades for Each First-Round Selection
The Arizona Cardinals had a tough 2016 season. That being said, they made a strong selection in the 2017 NFL Draft that will have them headed in the right direction.
Haason Reddick was a productive edge rusher in college, showing the necessary speed and athleticism to rush the passer at the next level. At the Senior Bowl, Reddick was a star, primarily playing off the ball linebacker. His draft stock has soared over the past few months as he shined throughout the draft process.
Reddick is a versatile, athletic and aggressive defender who can help the Cardinals in a variety of ways. Landing in Arizona is a great situation for the young linebacker.
There was a lot of elite talent on the board when the Philadelphia Eagles went on the clock. Derek Barnett was an extremely productive pass rusher in college, but his lack of raw athleticism may be an issue at the next level.
Barnett is a fair bet to be a solid NFL starting defensive end. However, his upside is relatively limited. With so much elite talent still on the board, I do not love this pick. There is something to be said for making a safe and solid pick here, but I can’t say that I love it.
