The Kansas City Chiefs knew who they wanted and they made sure that they got the job done. The Chiefs traded a third-round pick (91st overall) and their 2018 first round selection to go from number 27 to 10. The interesting deal with the Buffalo Bills put the Chiefs in a position to draft Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes is one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2017 NFL Draft class. He is a great athlete with a huge arm and natural playmaking ability. Mahomes has more natural upside than any other quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft.

That being said, he is an extremely raw talent who plays far too out of control for the NFL level. Mahomes will have to get learn an NFL playbook and rely less on his backyard style of play to be successful at the next level. One thing is for sure, he landed in a perfect situation.

Mahomes is not NFL ready, making Kansas City a perfect landing spot. Not only does having Alex Smith allow the Chiefs to bring Mahomes along slowly, Andy Reid is one of the best quarterback coaches in the NFL. If anyone can get the most out of Mahomes, Reid is the guy.

The Texas Tech product is far from a sure-thing, but this appears to be a great fit. The Chiefs see the massive and took their swing. If they connect, Kansas City could quickly become strong AFC contenders and have a big-time quarterback for many years.
