2017 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears Trade Down with Arizona Cardinals in Second Round, Trade Details
In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears trade down with the Arizona Cardinals in the second round to pick up extra draft capital.
The Chicago Bears made a quick and aggressive move in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. They gave up extra draft capital to move up to the second overall pick to secure the selection of Mitch Trubisky.
Going from third to second cost the Bears their third and fourth-round selections in the 2017 NFL Draft and a third-round pick next year as well. To help recoup those losses, Ryan Pace and company traded back from their early second round selection.
The Arizona Cardinals were the ones coming up in the trade, as they moved up to grab exciting safety prospect Budda Baker. The details of the trade are as followed:
Basically, the Bears drop down eight spots, and for their troubles, pick up a fourth-round selection this year and next. They also turned their seventh round selection into a sixth-rounder. Ryan Pace and company did a nice of dropping down and recouping the value they lost from last night.
Now, I still do not like the move that was made in the first round. Pace panicked and moved up for Trubisky. However, he clearly coveted him as his guy to lead this franchise going forward. It is hard to get too upset about the Bears aggressively targeting the player who they wanted.
Next: Real Reason Why Bears Drafted Trubisky
This trade up in the first and trade down in the second was the exact scenario we saw in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Bears traded up two picks in the first to land Leonard Floyd and then traded back twice in the second round before taking Cody Whitehair. Let’s hope their moves in the first two rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft work out as well as those.
