The Chicago Bears have drastically improved their pass defense through the first two rounds. The additions of Jamal Adams and Tyus Bowser will go a long way towards helping their ability to stop teams through the air. However, their cornerback situation is still ugly.

The Bears did a nice job of adding undervalued talent to their cornerback mix this offseason. Both Marcus Cooper and Price Amukamara were great buy-low additions. However, they could still stand to add some more talent.

In the third round, the Bears add to their cornerback mix with the addition of Colorado’s Ahkello Witherspoon. At 6-foot-3, 198 pounds, Witherspoon has ideal size and length for the cornerback position. Vic Fangio typically loves size at the cornerback position and Witherspoon certainly fits the bill.

His size is exciting but Witherspoon brings much more to the table. He is also an extremely fast and athletic cornerback who can make plays on the ball. Witherspoon is a fantastic natural athlete who can go up and get the ball with the best of them. Add in his fantastic deep speed and the Bears may have found themselves a potential shutdown cornerback in the making.

Witherspoon certainly has a slight frame which can cause him to be overpowered by bigger receivers but his overall skillset him a ton of long-term upside at the position. Adding those skills to a major position of need makes this a slam dunk selection for the Chicago Bears.
