Chicago Bears 2017 NFL Draft: Ranking Top Five First Round Options
1. Jamal Adams, S, LSU
LSU safety Jamal Adams has been mocked to the Chicago Bears throughout the 2017 NFL draft process. He is a clean prospect who has a high-floor, high-ceiling and fills a major position of need. When you put it all together, Adams is probably the prospect who makes the most sense for the Bears at three.
Adams is a physical in-the-box safety who shows fantastic run defense ability. He is a fast, aggressive and tough safety who flies all over the field making plays both against the run and the pass. He is a well-balanced player who would make an immediate impact in the Bears’ secondary.
Similar to cornerback, safety is a major position of need for the Bears. Adams would come in and immediate be their best player at the position.
While he primarily played in-the-box at LSU, Adams also has strong coverage skills. He is a good man-to-man defender and even has the speed and ball skills to play the deep middle of the field if necessary. Adams is a fantastic overall player who steps up and makes plays when his team needs them the most.
Next: Bears 7-Round Mock Draft With a Ton of Trades
Adams is available for the Bears in most mock drafts, but Mayock had him going second to the San Francisco 49ers. That is certainly an interesting situation to note, but it is still probably more likely that he will still be there at number three than he will not. Regardless, we will know soon enough.
Adams is a clean draft prospect who makes a ton of sense for the Chicago Bears. While I could see them going in many different directions, I see Adams as the most likely first-round selection for the team on Thursday.
