The Chicago Bears made a shocking decision on Thursday as they selected North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. How are fans reacting to the selection?
The Chicago Bears have addressed their long-term need at the quarterback position on Thursday night in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
With the second overall selection in the draft, the Bears selected North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears traded up with the San Francisco 49ers in order to select Trubisky.
In addition to the No. 3 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Bears also sent the No. 111 overall selection in this year’s draft, and third round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
What the trade tells you is that the Bears fell in love with Trubisky during the draft process. Bears’ general manager Ryan Pace has clearly identified Trubisky as the team’s next franchise quarterback.
How did Twitter react tot he Bears’ selection of Trubisky?
Why pay Glennon what they did as a place-holder, then? #Bears #NFLDraft

I know people are upset about what the #Bears gave up. Understandable, but this team NEEDS a quarterback.

Well Pace has gone all in. That is the kind of move you live or die by. Chicago Bears either got their franchise QB or we get a new GM...

I thought there was no way #Bears could muddy waters w/ #3 pick. Make your pick, trade down, even QB at 3 fine. Giving up picks for 1 spot? pic.twitter.com/H2kfflRucS

The Bears’ selection of Trubisky should not be surprising. The Bears needed a long-term answer at the quarterback position and Trubisky hopefully fills that need.
The surprising and, perhaps, the bad part of the Bears’ selection is that they traded three draft picks in order to select Trubisky. The problem is that Trubisky was likely going to be available for the Bears at the No. 3 overall selection. It seems likely that San Francisco 49ers fleeced the Bears into thinking that Trubisky was in play at the No. 2 overall selection. In any event, it’s clear that the Bears are heavily invested in the long-term future of Trubisky.
