The 2017 NFL Draft is here! One final time, we look at a potential target for the Chicago Bears. The draft day target is Stanford defensive lineman Solomon Thomas.

The 2017 NFL Draft finally has arrived. On Thursday night, the first round selections will be made and we will know who the Chicago Bears take at the top of the draft. To end this series of articles, we look at a name that has a good chance to hear his named called when the Chicago Bears pick is announced. Today we look at Stanford defensive lineman Solomon Thomas.

Thomas, at the first look, seems to not be a fit for the Bears because of his size. Listed at 6-foot-3, he gets overlooked as a defensive end for a 3-4 defense like the Bears have, but this all goes away when we look at the talent on this player.

He is like Aaron Donald, a player that doesn’t have the normal size to play his NFL position, but it does not matter when he is on the field. Thomas will make a great defensive end for the Bears, helping to solidify the defensive line with Eddie Goldman and Akiem Hicks. Incredibly strong and hard-hitting player that will help shut down running backs every Sunday.

The stats of the Chicago-born Thomas do not lie. In 2016, Thomas made 61 tackles, with 14 being for a loss of yards, he also had 8.5 sacks on the year, forced two fumbles and recovered another.

Some will say that the Bears should draft a defensive back or a quarterback at number 3, but Thomas may be the better pick. This is a deep defensive back class and a good player could be selected in the other rounds, like Washington safety Budda Baker, that could be a great selection in the second round.

For quarterbacks, this year class isn’t full of talent and selecting one at 3 may not be the best decision for the Bears, especially after giving that contract to Mike Glennon.

Because of that reasons, don’t be surprised if Thomas is the named called by the Bears. If this indeed happens, be happy, a special player is coming to Chicago to help this defense to get better. In my opinion, Thomas would be a fan favorite by the end of the 2017 season and will be the face of the franchise for the next few years.
