8. Luis Alexander Basabe, Outfielder

Luis Alexander Basabe was part of the Sale trade from Boston and has a twin brother that is currently in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ farm system. Basabe is a switch-hitting center fielder with a ton of upside.

He is currently playing for Winston-Salem in Single-A Advanced ball. Currently, with a .256 average in 10 games, Basabe is starting out the year with good numbers that will likely only go up. Basabe has a surprisingly strong bat for a player who is new to the game of baseball, as he hasn’t been playing for that long.

As a natural center fielder, Basabe finally gets to show his skill set at center, after being moved around the outfield in the Red Sox system. The White Sox have him in a place where he is comfortable and confident. Basabe also has a ton of speed and is a threat to swipe bags when he is on base. He still needs to work on his fielding and reading fly balls, but he is well on his way to becoming a star.

Time will tell if center field is his position of the future. As the White Sox have other young prospects, but if Basabe can get is bat going and keep his legs working on the base paths, I look for him to be the odds on favorite as the center fielder of the future on the South Side.
