The Chicago Bears have one of the best interior lines in the NFL. That is if Kyle Long is healthy after shoulder and ankle problems from last season. Their outside portion of the line, however…

For now, the Bears are going with Charles Leno and Bobby Massie on their edge. The Bears need depth at tackle. Garcia can come in and provide that depth until he eventually steps in as the starter.

Garcia is a very athletic lineman, fitting in well with the other linemen. He played basketball in high school, and that is evident when he moves on the field. His later movement is excellent and he slides his feet well against edge rushers.

In his career, Garcia started in 42 of the 43 games he played. He provided excellent protection, giving up just 5.5 sacks in his last three seasons (including ZERO in his final season).

Some scouts were concerned about Garcia not being able to reach 300 pounds on his 6-foot-7 frame, but he came in at 302 in the NFL Combine. Also, they had concerns about the level of play, but he opened a lot of eyes at the Senior Bowl with his impressive week of practice and solid play in the game.

Speaking of the Senior Bowl, the Bears’ coaching staff got a very good look at Garcia. John Fox and his assistants coached the North squad. They saw him up close and personal and have a good idea of his play they wouldn’t have just by watching film. Having him on the line gives the Bears’ offense additional options, and options are things you want to have.
