Webb certainly had an interesting college career. He came into Lubbock, Texas, and took the starting quarterback job away from two-time Heisman finalist Baker Mayfield, who ultimately transferred to Oklahoma.

Then, late in 2014, Webb sustained injuries and missed the final four games of the season. That opened up a spot for Pat Mahomes, who took advantage of it and played well. Webb played backup in 2015, and after he graduated, he decided to go to Cal and use up his final season of eligibility.

Webb thrived at Cal, breaking multiple records. He ranked second in passing yards with 4,295 yards, Interestingly enough, Webb ranked just behind Mahomes. Also, Webb threw for 37 touchdowns and added 6 rushing touchdowns.

Webb is a project. According to NFL.com, he needs to work on his mechanics and he sometimes looks down his receivers too much. He projects as a third-string quarterback in his rookie season, backup in his second season and should compete for a starting job in his third season.

That sounds just like what the Chicago Bears want. Webb can learn under Sanchez (who did a great job with Dak Prescott in Dallas), and if Glennon falters, he can step in. Even if Glennon doesn’t falter, the better your starting quarterback/backup combination is, the better your chances are to survive an injury. Besides, having a capable backup also opens up trade opportunities. The New England Patriots received a plethora of trade offerings for their backup signal caller.

Webb has the arm and physical tools to succeed in the NFL. If the Bears can take him and stash him for awhile, he can improve and be ready to be a starting-level NFL quarterback.
