Five picks after the Douglas selection, the Chicago Bears were on the clock for two picks in a row (9th and 10th picks in the fourth round). The New England Patriots came in with a strong offer for the first of those picks, so we dropped down a bit and picked up an extra fifth rounder.

The value of picks traded according to the NFL Draft Trade Value Chart: 66.8 to 62, advantage Bears.

After trading down from 116, the Chicago Bears take an interesting offensive tackle at 117. Julie’n Davenport is not coming from a top-tier college football program but he is a talented guy who has a lot of long-term upside.

Davenport has the measurables to be a true franchise left tackle. At the combine, Davenport measured in at 6-foot-7, 318 pounds. On top of that, he has ridiculously long arms, measuring in at 36.5 inches. Davenport’s build gives him a chance to be a strong pass protector at the next level.

He is a big and long offensive tackle who uses his length to his advantage. Davenport also shows nice athleticism and overall maneuverability at the position. He can have a lot of success against speed at the next level.

Davenport has the skills to be a strong blindside protector at the next level. However, his footwork and overall technique are a mess. He is undoubtedly going to need some strong NFL coaching in order to unlock his potential.

The Chicago Bears could use an immediate upgrade at the offensive tackle position, but getting Davenport in the mix would be a step in the right direction. I doubt that he could come in and be an immediate contributor, but he would undoubtedly be an interesting developmental prospect for the Bears to work with.
