Chicago Bears: 7-Round 2017 NFL Mock Draft Filled With Many Exciting Trades
The Bears undoubtedly improved their cornerback situation in free agency this offseason. Adding both Marcus Cooper and Prince Amukamara will help the team at a position that they clearly struggled at last season. That being said, it is still a position of need for the team.
Vic Fangio loves having big and long cornerbacks on the outside. The Bears run a lot of press coverage and need guys with size to hold up against receivers at the line of scrimmage. At 6-2, 209 pounds with great length, Rasul Douglas certainly fits their mold.
Douglas is not the fastest cornerback on the outside, but he can press extremely well and goes up for 50/50 balls with the best of them. He is also a remarkably smart and aware defender who always seems to know what the receiver is trying to do. Douglas does a nice job of beating the receiver to the spot and constantly making a play on the ball.
His speed limitations may hurt him at times, but Douglas fits extremely well for what the Bears like to do. As long as you give him help over the top (this is where Hooker comes into play), Douglas should have a lot of success on the outside at the next level. Nice value selection at a major position of need for the Chicago Bears here.
