Chicago Bears: 7-Round 2017 NFL Mock Draft Filled With Many Exciting Trades
With the very next pick, the Chicago Bears hold steady for once and take an elite-level pass rusher to add to their mix in the front seven. Takkarist McKinley is an extremely exciting pass rush prospect who has massive upside at the next level.
McKinley is a long and athletic edge rusher who uses his impressive combination of speed and power extremely well. He gets a great burst off of the edge and is absolutely relentless on his way to the quarterback. McKinley will never give up on a play, consistently playing until the whistle.
His upside is absolutely massive, but McKinley is a raw talent. He does not show an advanced pass rush repertoire, struggling to use his length to his advantage. McKinley has great bend around the edge but he does get as much consistent pressure as you would expect with all of his physical tools.
McKinley is a bit of a project, but the Bears would be in a good position to bring him along slowly. Leonard Floyd and Pernell McPhee make up a strong starting duo on the outside for the Bears and Willie Young provides quality depth. The Bears could use McKinley in obvious pass rush situations early on, allowing him to get his feet wet in spots that suit him best.
Let Vic Fangio work with a guy who has all of this skill and upside, and he will likely get the most out of him. McKinley is an extremely talented player who could drastically improve the Bears defense. A long-term pass-rushing duo of him and Floyd would be scary to opposing quarterbacks.
With the additions of Hooker and now McKinley, the Bears pass defense has drastically improved in this mock draft.
