Chicago Bears: 7-Round 2017 NFL Mock Draft Filled With Many Exciting Trades
With their own fifth-round pick, the Chicago Bears find a nice depth piece on the defensive line. Deatrich Wise Jr. is a bit of a tweener prospect. At 6-foot-5, 274 pounds, he does not have the ideal bulk to play inside. However, he primarily lined up as a 4-3 defensive end in college and does not really have the quickness and athleticism to be an exciting pass rusher prospect.
That being said, Wise is a strong player who showed the ability to two-gap when asked to do so at Alabama. Add in his ridiculously long arms (35 5/8″) and the Bears may have a guy who can handle some five-technique defensive end in their 3-4 defense.
Wise is a high-motor player who can make an impact up front. He could certainly stand to add a little bulk, but he is a talented player who can fit their defense well.
The Chicago Bears landed the 19th pick in the fifth round after a trade down scenario with the Patriots in the fourth round. With that selection, they land San Diego State cornerback Damontae Kazee.
At 5-foot-10, 184 pounds, Kazee does not have great size for a cornerback. He also lacks the ideal deep speed for the position. However, when you put his tape on, it is painfully obvious; this guy knows how to cover.
Kazee is an extremely sticky defender who has great field awareness. He always seems to know where the ball is going and has incredible natural ball skills. His size and lack of speed limit his upside, but Kazee is a rock-solid defender who has the quickness to play in the slot. I could see him becoming an extremely valuable slot defender at the next level.
