Offensive Line

The offensive line is an interesting area for the Chicago Bears. With Josh Sitton, Cody Whitehair and Kyle Long, the Bears have one of the best starting interior lines in the NFL when healthy. However, their starting tackle duo of Charles Leno and Bobby Massie leaves plenty to be desired. There are a ton of offensive tackles who the Bears could target, but let’s take a look at the most logical choices.

Forrest Lamp, Western Kentucky: 6-foot-4, 309 pounds, Projected Round: 1-2

Forrest Lamp was a dominant left tackle at Western Kentucky. The competition level concerns do apply here, but Lamp was just as dominant in his matchup against Alabama as he was against any team this season. He is a strong pass protector who can dominate in the run game as well.

More from Da Windy City

Most consider Lamp to be a guard at the next level. Personally, I think he has the athleticism to stick at tackle. I think the Bears would be in a good position to at least give him a shot. At worst, he can jump back into guard. If Lamp is available, I’d love him to be the Bears’ choice in the second round.

Taylor Moton, Western Michigan: 6-foot-5, 319 pounds, Projected Round: 2

A big and powerful run blocker who can absolutely dominate at the point of attack, Taylor Moton would make sense for the Chicago Bears. Moton’s elite run blocking skills would be incredible for Jordan Howard and he has the athleticism and length to be a strong pass protector as well.

Moton would be an immediate upgrade over Massie at right tackle and has the upside to be dominant there.

Julie’n Davenport, Bucknell: 6-foot-7, 318 pounds, Projected Round: 4-5

Julien’ Davenport is as raw of an offensive tackle prospect that there is. That being said, he has the overall skill-set to be a strong left tackle at the next level. Davenport has the size and freakish length to keep defenders away. He also shows great athletic ability and the skills needed to mirror opposing pass rushers.

He does lack the nastiness that you always like to see out of offensive linemen and his footwork could certainly use some work but Davenport would be an interesting project for the Bears to take a look at.
