Chicago Bears News: Does Mike Glennon alter draft plans?
NFL.com posed a question that asked if the free-agent signing of quarterback Mike Glennon alters the Chicago Bears 2017 NFL Draft plans?
It is no secret that the Chicago Bears entered the off-season with the intention of addressing the quarterback position.
With the exception of Connor Shaw, the Bears did not bring back a single quarterback that was on their roster last season. No longer with the team are veterans Jay Cutler, Brian Hoyer, and Matt Barkley. New faces in the quarterback room for the Bears include Mike Glennon and Mark Sanchez.
As currently constructed, Glennon will be the Bears’ starting quarterback while Sanchez serves as the backup quarterback. The issue for the Bears is that neither Glennon nor Sanchez represent a long-term answer for the team at the quarterback position. Because of that fact, that has left many wondering whether the Bears will address the quarterback position in the 2017 NFL Draft.

That is the same question that NFL.com posed for the Bears while providing a question for every NFC team:
"Chicago Bears: Even with Mike Glennon in tow, look for a quarterback on Day 2?A whole bunch of folks have the Bears taking cornerback Marshon Lattimore third overall. Makes sense. Prince Amukamara and Quintin Demps were nice free-agent acquisitions, but hardly enough to stop Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford. Heck, the division’s other non-Bears QB, Sam Bradford, just led the NFL in completion percentage. But what of Chicago’s quarterback? Yes, Mike Glennon is now making $15 million per year. That doesn’t guarantee he’s the answer. Perhaps GM Ryan Pace takes a one-year look-see and reassesses in 2018. If Mitchell Trubisky or Deshaun Watson tumbles down the board, bear in mind that Pace owns an early second-rounder (No. 36 overall)"
The Chicago Bears have to draft a quarterback early in the 2017 NFL Draft. Even after the signings of Glennon and Sanchez, the quarterback position remains one of the biggest needs that the team still has.
When Ryan Pace became general manager of the Bears, he stressed the importance of selecting a quarterback every year through the draft. Pace has yet to draft a quarterback for the Bears and two drafts have gone by.

Pace’s pattern of not selecting a quarterback should change this year for the Bears. The Bears may not take a quarterback with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft and there is no issue with that. But the Bears will take a quarterback on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. If the Bears don’t select a quarterback, perhaps Ryan Pace is not the right individual for the team’s general manager’s position.
