Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers: Five Players to Watch in Weekend Series
2. Travis Shaw
Travis Shaw is the Brewers everyday third baseman and middle of the order slugger. He is a 26-year-old left-handed slugger who is tearing the cover off of the ball early in the season.
Now, the sample size is obviously small, but Shaw is hitting an incredible .357/.438/.857 through four games. He has great plate discipline and shows power to all fields. I am not saying that Shaw is all of a sudden an elite hitter, but he has always had some nice offensive upside. Maybe he starts to reach it this season?
The Brewers are all about giving the opportunity to grow at the major league level right now. Shaw is the perfect kind of player for them to be giving at-bats to. He is a talented young guy who could grow into a long-term role with the team. Shaw just needs an opportunity to prove himself as an MLB regular. So far, so good.
If Shaw can keep this up, he is going to be an important player in this Brewers rebuild. He is a talent player who may have unlocked a little bit of pop in his bat.
Can Shaw keep up his success against Anderson, Hendricks, Arrieta and the Cubs bullpen this weekend? That will be one of the interesting stories to watch in this series.
