Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers: Five Players to Watch in Weekend Series
5. Kris Bryant
Reigning National League MVP Kris Bryant has started all three games for the Chicago Cubs at third base. He will likely do the same in the three games against the Brewers.
Bryant has not had a strong start to the season, going hitless in 13 at-bats up until this point. He did reach on a walk on Thursday against the Cardinals, but Bryant has struck out six times. Not only has he only reached base once, the MVP has struck out in almost half of his plate appearances. It has obviously not been a great start to the season for Bryant.
However, worrying about him would be crazy. Three random games of sub-par performance mean absolutely nothing. If Bryant wouldn’t hit for three games randomly in the middle of the season, nobody would bat an eye. This is only getting a bit of attention because it is the beginning of the year.
I fully expect Bryant to break out against the Brewers this weekend, probably in a big way. He is far too talented of a player to be kept down for too long. If Bryant continues to struggle through the weekend, there may be something to watch. However, I would be surprised to see that happen. Look for a big three-game set for the Cubs star third baseman.
