2017 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears Complete Seven-Round Mock Draft
If the Bears do not take a quarterback in the first round, they need to make sure to get one eventually. Mike Glennon may be a decent stop-gap option, but he is not a long-term answer at the position. Here in the third round, the Bears find an interesting quarterback prospect who has a lot of long-term upside.
Davis Webb is a big and strong kid who shows a powerful arm and good touch on his passes. His accuracy is spotty, but there are times when Webb can put the ball on the money.
He is not the most athletic quarterback, but Webb does have some mobility. He is not a statue in the pocket, showing the ability and awareness to get away from pressure. Speaking of pressure, Webb shows great pocket awareness. He will step up and make plays with pressure in his face.
His decision making will be a work in progress. Webb played in a fast-paced offense in college that did not force him to make difficult decisions. Mentally, he is not ready to be a significant NFL contributor. He needs to learn how to read defenses and make decisions off of that read.
Webb is not a finished product but he undoubtedly has a ton of upside going forward. Glennon could be the Bears quarterback for a couple of seasons, but give way to Webb if he shows enough progression to be worthy of the starting job. His upside makes Webb a strong choice for the Bears in the third round.
