I strongly believe that Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson should be the Bears choice with the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft if available. That being said, there are plenty of worthy options for the Bears at the top. Among them is LSU safety Jamal Adams who would immediately be a big-time playmaker on the Bears defense.

Adams primarily played in-the-box at LSU, showing fantastic overall run defense ability. He can range from sideline-to-sideline, make plays in the backfield and is not afraid to mix it up in the middle of the field.

More from Chicago Bears

Speaking of the middle of the field, Adams is an enforcer who hits with a lot of power. If the Bears draft him, opposing wide receivers will think twice about going over the middle. Adams played a semi-traditional strong safety role in college, but do not discount his overall ability.

He is an extremely athletic safety prospect who is a strong man-to-man coverage defender. Adams matches up well on tight ends and can certainly hold his own against certain receivers. He also shows legitimate deep coverage skills should the Bears decide that he should be more of a deep safety. Adams excels towards the line of scrimmage but do not sleep on his coverage skills.

More than anything, Adams is a natural playmaker who steps up when his team needs him the most. Have a big third down late in the game? You can bet that Adams will be there to make a play. He is an elite NFL safety in the making who would immediately take the Bears defense to the next level.

The Bears already have a strong defensive front seven. Adding Adams to the safety mix would be a great step towards improving their secondary.
