Chicago Cubs All-Time Leaders in Home Runs
Hack Wilson was one of the best ballplayers of his era. He did not spend his entire career with the Chicago Cubs, but Wilson’s prime years were spent on the North Side.
In his six seasons with the Cubs, Wilson hit an incredible .322/.412/.590. He was a powerful hitter in an era where power hitters were extremely well. He had an incredible natural skill set at the plate that immediately shows up in his numbers.
Wilson led the National League in home runs four times while he was with the Cubs. First in 1926 with 21 home runs and again in the two years following with 30 and 31 respectively. Wilson did not lead the league in homers when he hit 39 in 1929. However, he did when he hit an incredible 56 home runs in 1930. Wilson also had 191 RBI in 1930, which still stands as the Major League record for RBI in a season.
Wilson was an incredible baseball player who had an absolutely ridiculous stretch of seasons with the Cubs. His 190 home runs hit with the franchise came on only 850 at-bats. Make no mistake about it, Hack Wilson is one of the best hitters in the long and storied history of the franchise.
