Chicago Cubs All-Time Leaders in Home Runs
Mark Grace was a strong and consistent presence in the middle of the Chicago Cubs lineup for many years. He was rarely the star of the show, but Grace was an extremely important part of many good Cubs’ teams.
He was never a major power hitter but Grace was a fantastic contact hitter who showed great plate discipline. His career .308 batting average and .386 on-base percentage show how valuable of an offensive weapon that Grace was.
If we are being honest, the only reason he is on this list is his longevity with the team. Grace had some pop, but he was always more of a singles hitter. In fact, Grace had more base hits than any other MLB player during the decade of the 1990s.
His 148 career home runs with the team came in 7,156 at-bats, the seventh-most of any player in the history of the franchise. Grace certainly has an important role in the history of the franchise. He was a professional hitter who won four Gold Gloves throughout his Cubs career and was named an All-Star three times. However, a major power hitter he was not.
As this list moves along, we will see plenty of Grace’s teammates who were much bigger power hitters than he was.
