Watch Albert Almora preserve a 2-1 lead for the Chicago Cubs with an incredible catch in center field.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora is expected to be the primary replacement for Dexter Fowler in center field this season. Almora has some nice offensive upside, but his real value on the field comes with the glove.

Almora is not the fastest or most athletic center fielder, but he has tremendous natural instincts in the outfield. The dude can simply pick it out there. He put his defensive skills on full displays in the seventh inning of the Cubs’ close battle with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

With the Cubs leading 2-1, Cardinals slugger Matt Adams hit a deep drive to center field. Almora stayed calmed, tracked the ball perfectly and robbed Adams of what looked to be a game-tying home run. See the incredible play for yourself:

Almora tracked the ball and timed his jump perfectly. This kind of playmaking ability in the outfield bodes well for his immediate and long-term future. What an incredible play.

Almora is already an elite defender in center field. As long as he can become a league average hitter, he is going to an extremely valuable player for the Chicago Cubs.

However, he has the offensive upside to be much better than average. He showed a lot of power in Spring Training and has always had great contact ability. Almora stepping up and making a play in a big moment like this is a great sign for the Cubs.

He is a tremendous playmaker in the outfield who undoubtedly has Gold Gloves in his future. As we saw on this fantastic play, Almora just lets his instincts take over in the outfield.

If the Cubs bullpen can hold this lead and come away with a victory, the team can thank Almora for this big-time game-saving play.
