As I’ve said ad nauseum, while the Chicago Bears’ interior line is one of the best in the league, the edge is suspect, though. Charles Leno is serviceable at the blind side, but the Bears need more than that to help out their new quarterback.

It appears the team is going with Leno at the blind side and Bobby Massie on the other side, with no major free agent signing. They did sign Tom Compton, but he is just for added depth. He’ll never compete for a starting spot.

Davenport will be the future of the team. He goes along well with the young, athletic interior line. He is athletic for his size, which allows the offense to run a variety of plays with pulling linemen.

Davenport has long arms, which keeps defenders away from their intended target. His hands are strong as well. HIs initial punch at the snap can stop defenders and even knock some off-balance.

Davenport;s character is something that is a plus. He was a team leader at Bucknell, having been a team captain for the last two seasons.

Davenport is still raw. He needs to improve his footwork, which can be heavy at times. He also depended too much on his physical gifts against inferior competition. Still, his deficiencies are things that can be corrected at the higher level. With his tremendous physical gifts, he’ll make a team happy. Hopefully, that team is in Chicago.
