The Chicago White Sox have announced their starting lineup for Monday afternoon’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Baseball season is finally here and the Chicago White Sox have made their opening day lineup official. There are a couple of surprises in the lineup, but they are well deserving of starting spots.

First, let’s talk about the pitching matchup. Chicago will send ace and highly coveted lefty Jose Quintana to the mound for his first career opening day start. Quintana will be opposed with veteran and long-time Tigers ace Justin Verlander. This is a huge opening day pitching matchup with two marquee names dueling it out.

Now, let’s talk about the starting lineup:

As you can see the two surprises in the lineup for me are Cody Asche starting at DH and catcher Omar Narvaez. I absolutely love this lineup, Narvaez deserves to be the starting catcher and Asche has earned a spot on the team as well.

I love that Rick Renteria is going with Tyler Saladino as the lead off guy. In my opinion, this is the best and smartest lineup the Chicago White Sox could put together at this point in their rebuild.

I’m eager to see how Jacob May does batting in the nine spot. Putting him in the nine spot will lower the nerves for him a bit. May will have Avisail Garcia and Narvaez both in front of him with the top of the order coming up behind him.

For a lifelong Sox fan like myself, this is a very exciting lineup to see. It is going to see how the youth and mix of veteran talent unfold on the field. This team is obviously going to struggle a lot this season but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Struggling and finding their way is going to be what helps this team compete, especially when they bring up talent from the minor leagues.
