Chicago White Sox Trade Rumors: Jose Quintana to the St. Louis Cardinals?
Recent MLB trade rumors suggest that Chicago White Sox ace José Quintana is drawing trade interest from the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Chicago White Sox have been fielding trade offers for starting pitcher José Quintana for quite a while now. Considering they are at the beginning of a massive rebuild, it would benefit them greatly to trade Quintana. They should be able to get a massive haul much like they did for Chris Sale.
José Quintana finished last year with 13-12 record, 3.20 ERA and a 125 ERA+. He has pitched at least 200 innings in four out of the five years he has been in the league, including each of the last four. Starting pitchers of Quintana’s caliber do not grow on trees. His contract is very team friendly as well, as he is under team control until 2020.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates are interested but have been “passive” in their efforts to trade for Quintana. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals have recently shown interest in the young starter.
I am sure Cubs fans would not mind seeing the Cardinals deplete their farm system in a trade for Quintana. But if the Cardinals were to land Quintana that would give them a rotation of a strong rotation to build their 2017 team around.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals their stud prospect, Alex Reyes, had Tommy John surgery and is out for the rest of the 2017 season. However, adding Quintana would help soften the blow of that loss.
The Cardinals would have a rotation that could give the Chicago Cubs a difficult time. If the Cardinals make the trade for Quintana, the National League Central race would become a lot more interesting.

A trade of this caliber would shift the dynamic of the NL Central and AL Central. The Cardinals could challenge the Cubs for the NL Central crown. The White Sox would continue to build upon an already loaded farm system headlined with prospects like Yoan Moncada and Lucas Giolito.
