2017 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears may not draft a quarterback?
While nearly everyone expects the Chicago Bears to select a quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, general manager Ryan Pace indicated that may not be the case.
The 2017 NFL Draft is just over four weeks away, and the rumors are swirling for every team. Front offices around the league say things to hint at what moves they may make. They also say things to throw other teams away from their true intentions. Such may be the case with Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace.
Everyone expects the Bears to draft a quarterback. Some of them have them taking one as high as the number three overall pick. The Bears saw Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes II, DeShone Kizer, Nathan Peterman, and Brad Kaaya. All signs point to them choosing a quarterback eventually, right?
Not so fast.
Speaking to reporters at the NFL owners meetings, Pace indicated that they just may not look at quarterback, shocking many.
Pace said in his first press conference as Bears general manager that he’d draft a quarterback every year to get the right one. So far, however, he has yet to draft one in his two years in Chicago. Now he says he may not do so again this year?

"We talk about it a lot. We’re going to draft the best players available, wherever that may be. And if it’s a quarterback, it’s a quarterback. But we’re going to take the best players available. I think now some of those things are unforeseen. You can’t predict some of those things. But right now I like the way Sanchez blends with Glennon and with Connor Shaw."
Apparently, Pace wants fans to know that he feels comfortable with Mike Glennon, Mark Sanchez, and Connor Shaw as the quarterbacks the team uses in 2017.
"It just never lined up,” said Bears GM Ryan Pace, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “You’re talking to clubs all the time about different scenarios. That goes on probably more than people realize throughout the season and in the offseason. It just never materialized."
Pace also said the Bears were “fired up” to have Glennon as the starter. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think Glennon has ever done anything to fire anyone up on the football field. And the only thing I can say about Sanchez is “butt fumble” and I’ll leave it at that.
As I mentioned before, this could all just be a smokescreen created by Pace. They may go out and get a quarterback with the third pick. At the very least, it gets people talking and wondering about what the team does.
Pace may be fired up about Glennon and Sanchez, but if he doesn’t draft a quarterback and those two don’t work, he will surely be fired.
