Chicago Bears 2017 mock draft: Four-round look
With a new era in the Chicago Bears quarterback, it’s time that there be a new era in its offense as well. The Bears signed speedy receivers through free agency, and here they take another speedy receiver. All this speed can wear down the opposing defense and force them to make a decision on which bullet they want to bite.
Ford is an excellent athlete. He played basketball in high school and was heavily recruited in that sport. When he goes out for the ball, he can use his height (6-foot-1) and his basketball ability (35.5-inch vertical) and outjump the defender and get the ball.
Ford stepped up and performed well for the Hokies as soon as he stepped on the field. As a freshman, he led the team in receptions (56), receiving yards (709) and receiving touchdowns (6). During his sophomore season, he improved to 75 receptions, 1,164 yards, and 11 touchdowns. In his senior season, he had 79 receptions for 1,094 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Ford’s athletic ability allows him to make some great circus catches. Perhaps he can make the same type of catches former Bear Alshon Jeffery made when he played in Chicago. Also, his feet are excellent. He drags his feet to keep them in bounds on sideline passes, and he uses some killer jab moves to create space. Additionally, his route running is excellent.
Ford doesn’t get the attention of the other receivers in this class, but he could be a true steal. The combination of speed, height, and athletic abilities will make him a very good professional player.
