After suffering through a plethora of injuries to the cornerback unit last season, the Chicago Bears could use a player like Quincy Wilson — a confident player who plays with tons of passion.

In our latest in our series highlighting possible Chicago Bears draft targets, we take a look at Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson.

Wilson teamed up with Teez Tabor at Florida to produce one of the best cornerback duos in the nation. He is the type of player coaches love — he has a confidence that borders on cockiness and he plays with an abundance of passion.

These are things that the Bears lacked last season. Tracy Porter had a good season, but he is getting up in age. He also doesn’t elicit a lot of excitement. Also, let’s not forget the tale of Kyle Fuller. He had a scope before the season that shouldn’t have cost him any games, yet it cost him the entire season. The Bears’ coaching staff was not happy about that. With a draft class deep in corners, Fuller’s days in Chicago may be numbered.

More from Da Windy City

Wilson is the anti-Fuller. He thrives taking on the opponent’s best receiver. He has the body (6-foot-1, 211 pounds) and plays a physical game. While he doesn’t have elite speed, he has the strength to take out a receiver at the line of scrimmage, affecting the route. Additionally, he plays well against the run. He doesn’t wait for the running back to come in and pound him, he makes sure to take a pound of flesh.

In order to succeed as a cornerback, one needs to have a short memory. There are many great quarterbacks and wide receivers in the league and you will be beaten at times. Wilson has that short memory. It appears that nothing breaks his supreme confidence on the field.

The Chicago Bears are known for their ferociousness on defense. Teams knew they were in for a beating when they faced Chicago. This is something that’s been missing over the past four seasons. The life fans are accustomed to seeing isn’t there. Wilson would bring that back. As soon as he touches the field it is instant excitement.

Wilson projects to be a late first or early second round pick. If he’s available to the Bears in the second round, they need to pick him up. He’ll become an instant fan favorite and the coaches would certainly love him as well.
