Free agent quarterback Mark Sanchez is set to visit with the Chicago Bears on Thursday.

An interesting tidbit surfaced on Tuesday night as NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo reported that free agent quarterback Mark Sanchez will be visiting with the Chicago Bears on Thursday.

Of course, whenever Sanchez’s name is mentioned, this play comes to mind…

But the former New York Jets,Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback also has this moment on his highlight reel…

After re-signing Connor Shaw and then signing free agent Mike Glennon, the Bears were thought to be set at the quarterback position until the 2017 NFL Draft. The idea being that Glennon would serve as the Bears’ starting quarterback in 2017 with Shaw and a rookie quarterback battling to be the backup.

The Bears’ interest in Sanchez throws a wrench into that idea.

It’s possible that the Bears do not have an interest in any of the top quarterbacks in the 2017 NFL Draft. That list includes Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, Clemson’s DeShaun Watson, North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky, and Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes II.

In that scenario, the Bears could target a second-tier quarterback in the draft such as Pittsburgh’s Nate Peterman, California’s Davis Webb, or Miami’s Brad Kaaya. The Bears could picture Sanchez backing up Glennon with one of the aforementioned second-tier draft quarterbacks serving as the third-string quarterback.

In his seven-year career, Sanchez has compiled a 56.7 completion percentage with a total of 86 touchdowns and 86 interceptions.

The Bears are fully behind the idea of Glennon starting in 2017 so the team’s interest in Sanchez will be as a backup quarterback and possible mentor for a rookie quarterback.
