Would the Chicago Bears consider a wide receiver in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft? If they do, Western Michigan’s Corey Davis should be the guy.

The Chicago Bears have an interesting situation at wide receiver. With Kevin White, Cameron Meredith, Kendall Wright and Markus Wheaton on the roster, I would not call it a major position of need. That being said, after losing Alshon Jeffery in free agency, the Bears do not have a legitimate number one receiver on the roster.

Ideally, Kevin White would grow into that guy, but can he stay on the field long enough to make it happen? White has massive upside, but his injuries are a major concern. If the Bears do not think White can be “the guy”, perhaps they will make a commitment to the wide receiver position in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

I doubt that they would take a receiver at number three. However, if they trade back a few spots, it would likely be on the table. Let’s say the Bears trade down from the third overall pick to the seventh to 11th pick range. If that were to happen, taking a receiver would definitely be possible. And if it happens, Western Michigan’s Corey Davis should be the guy.

Davis is a smooth and athletic receiver who does everything on the field. He shows impressive speed and athleticism on the outside and has the change of pace quickness to compete in the slot. Davis is an extremely competitive receiver who will go up and fight for the ball against anyone.

At 6-3, 209 pounds, Davis also has nice size for the position. A big, athletic and competitive receiver, Davis is going to be a matchup nightmare for NFL teams, especially in the red zone.

He is a true number one receiver who has nice upside and a safe floor at the next level. There is a lot to like about Davis’ game, and he would immediately solidify the wide receiver position for the Chicago Bears.

The Bears have bigger needs than receiver, but it is not like they are loaded at the position. Plus, Davis is an absolute slam dunk of a pick.
