Chicago White Sox: Todd Frazier’s Role in the Rebuild
By Ian Blum
The Chicago White Sox have made aggressive rebuild moves in the off season going into the spring. With many of the fan favorites gone, the franchise needs a face. That player can easily be the third baseman, Todd Frazier.
Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier is going to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. At 31-years-old, Frazier may not have a long-term future with the franchise. It would make sense for the White Sox to trade him away at the deadline for another crop of prospects. However, if they choose to either restructure his contract or re-sign him later, he could play a big role in the rebuild.
Throughout his career, Frazier has been a likable player. He has made time for a numerous amount of television interviews and made time to interact with fans at home games and Sox Feast. The significance of these things cannot be overlooked.
Public relations in the sports world is important. Organizations are always looking to make the fan experience the best possible. By having a player serve as the bridge between fans and the team, it makes the experience more personal. Nothing makes fans happier than feeling like they are apart of the team. By making people feel involved it will make the organization likable as well as fill the stands come game day.
Along with being a team ambassador to the fans, Frazier can also be a teacher. With new talent flowing through the White Sox system, having an experienced position player around can never hurt. From the postseason to the Home Run Derby, Frazier has put together a memorable career that players can look up to, and hopefully learn from.
