The Chicago Bears release an official statement on the release of Jay C.

The Chicago Bears released quarterback Jay Cutler on Thursday. The move has been expected all off season, but the Cutler era being over makes this an important day in franchise history. Cutler certainly never reached his full potential with the Bears, but he still leaves the team holding all of their major franchise passing records.

Cutler will probably most be remembered for the bad, but the Bears clearly want him to be remembered positively for his time with the team. The team released an official statement on the release of Cutler via Twitter, featuring quotes from head coach John Fox, chairman George McCaskey and general manager Ryan Pace. You can read the statement in its entirety below.

The Bears now move forward with Mike Glennon as their starting quarterback. We can talk all day about whether Glennon is even a better option for the Bears than Cutler. But no matter how you look at it, this is a fresh start for the organization.

Cutler is the most productive quarterback in the history of the franchise, but the time had certainly come for the two sides to part ways. Glennon may not be the long-term answer for the Bears, but at least they have a new face running the offense. We know what this Bears’ team can do with Cutler under center and it typically was not pretty. With Glennon, at least there is some unknown.

That being said, it is important to appreciate Cutler for what he did for the Bears. He got a bad reputation and was never able to shake it, deservedly or not. That being said, Cutler did show up and compete for the Bears every single week and gave them a better shot to win than most other quarterbacks in the history of the franchise.

It was undoubtedly time for the two sides to part ways, but I am glad that the Chicago Bears gave him a nice send-off. Whether he suits up for another team or retires, I wish Jay Cutler nothing but success going forward.
