Pat Mahomes is a talented quarterback prospect, but he is not the right guy for the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears have a major need at the quarterback position. It is going to be very interesting to see how they fill it. If they go through free agency without a franchise signal caller and do not select one with the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Bears will be tempted to target the talented Pat Mahomes.

Mahomes is an extremely gifted quarterback prospect who has a ton of upside, but the Chicago Bears need to stay away from him.

Mahomes has all of the arm talent and natural athleticism in the world. He does a fantastic job of fitting the ball in to tight spaces, can throw the ball well on the run and is a natural play-maker at the position. That being said, Mahomes is not pro ready.

His technique and footwork are incredibly sloppy. Also, coming from the Air Raid system in college, Mahomes has to learn the pro style of game. Even things as simple as taking a snap from under center are completely foreign.

Mahomes has the raw skills to be a star quarterback at the next level. That being said, he has a lot of work to do to become ready for the pro game. I am sure that Mahomes is ready and willing to work on his shortcomings as a player, but he does need good direction.

The Bears are simply not a strong enough organization to groom a quarterback like Mahomes. When it comes down to it, I just do not trust their offensive coaching staff enough. John Fox is a defensive-minded coach who has never helped successful groom a quarterback. On top of that, offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has done nothing to prove to us that he is capable of taking on a big project like Mahomes.

The Texas Tech quarterback would be much better off landing with the Cleveland Browns and Hue Jackson, or with Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers. Both of them are strong and stable offensive coaches who would know how to get the best out of Mahomes.

Fox and Loggains would not be up for that kind of major task.

Do not take this the wrong way. I think Mahomes is an extremely talented quarterback who has massive upside at the next level. I love his gun-slinger mentality and ability to lead an explosive offense. But Mahomes needs a lot of help from his coaching staff in order to be successful at the next level.

The Chicago Bears are simply not in a position to give him that help. Instead, they would be better off finding a more pro ready prospect like Deshaun Watson, Mitchell Trubisky, Nathan Peterman or Brad Kaaya.
