With NFL Free Agency opening next week, the Chicago Bears are reportedly preparing a strong bid for free agent quarterback Mike Glennon.

The Chicago Bears may have zeroed in on who they want to be their 2017 starting quarterback.

According to Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are expected to make a strong bid for free agent quarterback Mike Glennon.

"Indications are that Glennon will be the Bears’ top target to replace Jay Cutler, potentially pairing the veteran with a draft pick. A third-round pick in 2013, Glennon started 18 games in his first two seasons with the Bucs before Jameis Winston replaced him."

Glennon had an impressive rookie season with the Buccaneers in 2013. Glennon posted a 58.7 QBR with 19 touchdown passes against 9 interceptions At 6′ 7″, Glennon is one of the tallest quarterbacks in the NFL and does have a strong arm.

The quarterback free agent class is extremely thin. The lack of quarterbacks available in free agency could be the reason why Glennon passed on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offer to be the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL. With teams like the Bears, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers in desperate need of a quarterback, Glennon figures to cash in on a starting opportunity.

Signing Glennon to start the 2017 season while a rookie develops behind may be an ideal situation for the Bears. Signing Glennon should not prevent the Bears from drafting one of the top four quarterbacks in the 2017 NFL Draft. If the Bears were to sign Glennon and not draft one of the top quarterbacks in the 2017 NFL Draft, then there would be an issue to take with general manager Ryan Pace.
