Chicago Bears Rumors: Bears Mentioned as Primary Suitor for QB Mike Glennon
As their search for a quarterback continues, the Chicago Bears are being rumored to have interest in free agent QB Mike Glennon.
What will the Chicago Bears do at the quarterback position this off season? That is the million dollar question. Jay Cutler is unlikely to be back as the team’s starting signal caller, so the team must a make a move.

New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is reportedly the Bears’ top choice, but it is now looking less likely that Garoppolo will actually be dealt. Addressing the position in the 2017 NFL Draft seems like a fair bet, but are the Bears willing to go all in with Deshaun Watson, DeShone Kizer or Mitch Trubisky at number three? That would certainly be a risky play.
However, the team only has so many options. With the Washington Redskins franchise tagging Kirk Cousins, the free agent crop of quarterbacks is pretty ugly. Want to take a shot on Ryan Fitzpatrick or Case Keenum? Well, good luck with that.
There is however one free agent quarterback who at least brings a little intrigue to the table. Mike Glennon showed some promise when he was given an opportunity with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier in his career, but once the team took Jameis Winston, Glennon’s career in Tampa Bay was over.
On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com mentioned the Bears as one of two teams as a possible landing spot for Glennon.
Glennon is a 27-year-old quarterback who shows a strong throwing arm. He was taken by the Bucs in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Glennon showed a bit of upside in 13 starts as a rookie for the Bucs in 2013. He completed nearly 60% of his passes that season for 2,608 yards and 19 touchdowns. Glennon only threw nine interceptions that season.

Not bad for a third-round rookie quarterback, but how much stock can we put in those numbers from four years ago? It does show that he has some ability, but is Glennon really a long-term answer at the position?
There are certainly worse options out there. Swinging and missing on a quarterback with the third overall pick would be worse than Glennon not working out. However, the rookie quarterbacks probably have much greater upside.
Depending on the price, I do not hate the idea of the Chicago Bears taking a shot on Glennon. He is still a young guy,
has a big arm and has had some NFL success. However, does he really make this team any better than they were with Jay Cutler? It is hard to say right now, but I doubt it.

Mike Glennon is a decent, low-risk option for the Bears this off season. That being said, he is probably not a guy who moves the needle much.
