What do the Chicago Bears do in this recent two-round 2017 NFL Mock Draft?

The Chicago Bears certainly have an interesting off season ahead of them. They are loaded with enough cap space to make significant additions to their roster. Also, after going 3-13 in 2016, the Bears have many valuable 2017 NFL Draft selections.

It will be extremely interesting to see how Ryan Pace and company can add to their mix of talent in both free agency and the draft. Do not let the 3-13 record fool you, this is a talented young team that could be the right piece or two away from being competitive. Multiple injuries killed the Bears in 2016, and with a little luck, they can turn this around quickly.

Today, we are going to look at a recent 2017 NFL Mock Draft by Matt LaPan of NFL SpinZone. LaPan went two complete rounds and there are many interesting picks worth checking out there. Obviously, we at Da Windy City are going to focus on the Chicago Bears’ picks.

With Myles Garrett and Mitch Trubisky going off the board at one and two, the Bears snagged Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen with the third overall pick. Here is some of what LaPan said about Allen to the Bears:

"Allen is a disruptive force on the defensive line that can make plays from anywhere on the defensive line. He has the size and strength to plug the middle or push the pocket from the inside, but also shows the burst, quickness and moves to dominate off the end of the line. The Crimson Tide star is a versatile player that forces offenses to identify where he is lined up on every play. He delivers a violent punch off the line, exploding out of his stance and getting everything moving at once. The questions arise around his ability to be a true pass rusher off the edge in passing situations, or if he is truly powerful enough to dominate against NFL interior linemen. Some may have those concerns, but the Bears should not and should run to the podium to select Allen."

Allen has probably been the player most commonly mocked to the Bears so far this draft season. He is an extremely talented defensive lineman who has a bright future at the next level. Defensive line is not a major need for the Bears, but Allen is a special talent who would make an already impressive group much better.

More from Chicago Bears

A starting defensive front of Allen, Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman would have massive upside. It may not be the sexiest selection, but drafting Allen would undoubtedly be a strong move for the Chicago Bears.

In the second round of his mock draft, LaPan gave the Bears Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer. Commonly considered to be a first round talent, landing Kizer with the 36th overall pick would be a huge win for the Bears.

Kizer is a bit raw, but he is an extremely talented quarterback who has massive upside at the next level. Kizer has a big arm, elite athleticism and fantastic accuracy. There are some questions about his instincts and consistency, but Kizer undoubtedly has the tools to become a franchise signal caller.

The Chicago Bears need to find their quarterback of the future this off season. Landing a talent like Kizer at such a low cost would be a massive win for Ryan Pace and company. If Kizer slips, the Bears need to make him a priority.

This would legitimately be the best case scenario for the Chicago Bears. They add an elite defensive player and a potential franchise quarterback in the first two rounds. I love this mock draft for the Bears, but I am curious to see what others think.
