Recent NFL rumors state that the New York Jets are not interested in dealing for Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

Jay Cutler is going to be the subject of NFL rumors all off season. The Chicago Bears seem ready and willing to do whatever possible to move on from Cutler as their starting quarterback this off season.

While cutting Cutler is undoubtedly an option, the Bears would obviously love to move him in a trade. The team who has been mentioned most as a Cutler suitor is the New York Jets.

The Jets have obvious issues at the quarterback position and Cutler has a successful history with Jets’ star receiver Brandon Marshall. The speculation about Cutler to the Jets only got louder when they hired Jeremy Bates to be their quarterback coach on Wednesday.

More from Chicago Bears

Bates and Cutler have spent four seasons together; three with the Denver Broncos from 2006-2008 and one year with the Bears in 2012. Cutler had the best season of his career under Bates in 2008, when he made his only Pro Bowl appearance. Who was Cutler’s number one receiver in Denver at that time? You guessed it, Brandon Marshall.

It is easy to connect those dots and see why Cutler would make sense for the Jets. However, according to Jets’ beat writer Rich Cimini of ESPN, the team is not interested in the 33-year-old gunslinger.

“Cutler is expected to be cut or traded by the Bears, but don’t expect him to land with the Jets. From what I hear, they won’t be suitors for Cutler,” Cimini wrote. “I think Tyrod Taylor (if he’s cut by the Bills) and free agent Mike Glennon are higher in the Jets’ pecking order than Cutler.”

While I would not completely close the door on the Jets taking a look at Cutler, Cimini’s word should not be taken lightly. He is extremely plugged into that team, and if he says they are not interested in Cutler, they probably aren’t.

Looks like Ryan Pace is going to have to find another sucker to take Cutler off of his hands.
