After winning the World Series, the Cubs’ boldest move to date was trading Jorge Soler to Kansas City in exchange for closer Wade Davis. Will this move by the team’s front office end up coming back to bite them?

Jorge Soler was once viewed by the Cubs’ front office as a budding star in the making. He signed with the team out of Cuba in 2012. Fans everywhere were ecstatic after hearing how much potential Soler had.

His best assets evident through his time as a Cub were his strong throwing arm and raw power. While he had an inconsistent three-year career with the Cubs, much of that was due to reoccurring injuries.

Despite Soler’s struggles at times, he is still just 24 years old. He has plenty of room for growth as a player. Unfortunately, the Cubs knew they couldn’t play Soler as an every-day outfielder due to their much-crowded field of players.

Thus, instead of hampering his development, the team did Soler a favor in trading him. Now he’ll get a chance to be in the Royals’ lineup everyday, either as a DH or outfielder. And this is just one of three key reasons why the Cubs could regret making the trade.
