The Chicago Bears look like they are moving away from Jay Cutler. No matter who leads the offense, however, he needs to be protected by a good offensive line.

The Chicago Bears seem to be moving on from quarterback Jay Cutler. For whatever reason, his time in Chicago is over. A new guy is going to move in and take over.

One of the reasons Cutler had troubles was a porous offensive line. In his eight seasons as the Bears signal caller, he suffered through an average of 31 sacks per season. That includes some seasons in which he missed five, six, and eleven games.

Whoever becomes the new quarterback needs to be protected. He needs to know that he has a line in front of him that can keep him upright, a line that allows him the time to properly go through his progressions and make the proper throw.

The running back also needs a line that opens up holes for him to run through. Jordan Howard had a great rookie season, setting the franchise rookie records for rushing yards and 100-yard games. He did that even while the line kept breaking down due to injury. Imagine if he had the line Ezekiel Elliott had in Dallas?
