President Obama hosts Chicago Cubs at the White House
In what was his last major event at the White House, President Barrack Obama hosted the Chicago Cubs on Monday.
The Chicago Cubs and President Barrack Obama have always had an awkward relationship. Awkward in the sense that Obama is the country’s most popular Chicago White Sox fan and has often thrown subtle shade at the Cubs.
On Monday, though, Cubs’ president Theo Epstein offered Obama a pardon while speaking at the White House.

“We have taken the liberty of offering you a midnight pardon,” Epstein joked. “We welcome you with open arms today to the Cubs family.”
Obama hosted the Cubs at the White House on Monday to honor the team winning their first World Series title since 1908. Even Obama admitted that he was not going to make that promise when initially running in 2008.
“They said this day would never come,” Obama said. “I will say to the Cubs, it took you long enough. I only have four days left. You’re just making it under the wire.
“Even I was not crazy enough to suggest that during these eight years we would see the Cubs win the Worlds Series. But I did say there has never been anything false about hope.”
Obama also has a job lined up for Epstein if he ever does leave the Cubs’ organization.
“His job is to quench droughts,” Obama said. “He takes the reins of an organization that’s wandering in the wilderness. He delivers them to the promised land. I’ve talked to him about being DNC chair, but he’s decided wisely to stick to baseball.”
Regardless of political ties, Monday was a cool sight. The Cubs at the White House after winning the World Series for the first time since 1908.
For the Cubs, Monday’s visit to the White House served as the perfect conclusion to the months of celebration over winning the World Series. With Spring Training beginning in less than a month, the focus will turn to the 2017 season and defending the crown.
